Additive Manufacturing of Reinforced Cementitious Structures

PT2020 - 3DFiber.concrete

The 3DFiber.concrete project aims to respond, on the one hand, to the limitations related to the incorporation of mechanical reinforcement in structures manufactured by FA for the construction sector and, on the other, to the need to automate and automate processes through the use of robotic systems.

Objectives, Activities, and Expected/Achieved Results

The 3DFiber.concrete project aims to respond, on the one hand, to the limitations related to the incorporation of mechanical reinforcement in structures manufactured by FA for the construction sector and, on the other hand, to the need for automation and automation of processes through the use of robotic systems. In addition, this project intends to focus on a strong digitalization of the entire value chain, from product definition to implementation, including the manufacturing and logistics chain.

The project will therefore focus on the research and development of solutions for the efficient and automatic incorporation of reinforcement systems into cement extrusion processes for high-performance structures in the construction sector.

Recent Developments

Every day our customers motivate us to take a more creative and innovative look at the industrial environment and manufacturing solutions, both today and in the future.

The continuous development of projects with high research and technological innovation requirements motivates a culture of constant research within our teams and has allowed us to collaborate closely with universities and research institutes.

An example of this are the R&D projects we are developing, today we present the 3DFiberConcrete project:

The 3DFiber.concrete project aims to respond, on the one hand, to the limitations related to the incorporation of mechanical reinforcement in structures manufactured by FA for the construction sector and, on the other, to the need for automation and automation of processes through the use of robotic systems.

The preliminary studies for this project have already been drawn up and are divided into four parts:

  • Preparatory technological assessment of robot-assisted additive manufacturing (AM) for reinforced cementitious constructions.
  • Study of cementitious materials for additive manufacturing.
  • Research on reinforcement strategies, including fiber reinforcement, pre-reinforced beams, and internal geometry.
  • Study and parameterisation of robotic control for cementitious AM and fiber reinforcement.

These preliminary studies aim to develop and consolidate knowledge on robotic extrusion processes for cementitious materials and material reinforcement, with the goal of enabling the automated production of high-performance components and structures for the construction sector, with a free and innovative design and without the use of molding, tending to be of high dimensions.
